Mark always enjoy your articles, many salient points.The De Beers referal is spot on except when you veered off to the man made diamonds and the effect you believe they will have. This is an area of some knowledge for me won't go into a long pedantic but man made gems always make a bit if a splash then the value drops like a rock. And GE has been mfgr synthetic diamonds since late 50's DeBeers has been involved in this indeavor for at least 25years. Most have been used for Industrial (abrasive, cutting) applications

Hecla Mining: Best Valued Silver Producer

Great comments all..I was a silver bug some years ago and accumulated 70lbs.. sat around till I sold it at no real profit because silver was stationary @ $6,00 oz. for so many years. These are different times Coinage is the way to go if you can find it at a low premium. I switched to gold and silver bars from the top refiners their Hallmarks are universally respected and are only a few points over the metal price if you buy a fair amount

Wells Fargo (WFC) will become the largest U.S. bank by branches with its bid for Wachovia (WB), after Citigroup (C) withdrew from compromise negotiations late yesterday on concerns about the quality of some of Wachovia's assets. Wells Fargo, with a bid valued at $11.4B, expects the purchase to be completed by the end of the year, and denies it will have to absorb assets shakier than originally thought. As the financial crisis continues to worsen, the U.S. government is considering two dramatic steps to turn around, or at least slow, the damage: guaranteeing billions of dollars in bank debt and temporarily insuring all U.S. bank deposits. Computer Sciences (CSC) -- This is a company that was going to be bought, but they passed up the chance. Now I don't want to buy it."
