The Agriculture Boom Goes Bust

Why the sudden change of opinion on POT and even the sector just before earnings announcements? Hedging your bets and comments I think? You aound like Citibank......Potash prices have jumped to more than cover input cost increases, and Phosphate prices have held and moved up slightly from record highs now over 1200/ton. Earnings drive stock price, and the fertilizer run still has legs.

UBS Raises PotashCorp and Agrium's Price Targets - Again

Potash will sell for $1000, and several very large contracts sold ~$700 months ago. The demand/supply balance is in favor of POT, MOS, CF, and AGU, and this will not change much for at least 2-3 years due to barriers to entry or expansion. Earnings announcements in the next two weeks will support the UBS upgrades, which are still conservative.

Wells Fargo (WFC) will become the largest U.S. bank by branches with its bid for Wachovia (WB), after Citigroup (C) withdrew from compromise negotiations late yesterday on concerns about the quality of some of Wachovia's assets. Interbank lending remains limited, and borrowing from the Fed's expanded discount window continued its trend of setting new highs every week, as the total daily average rose to $420.2B vs. $367.8B last week.
