If you go back to read Reggie's articles,you will find he has been mostly right on the financials....maybe he was having a holiday drink when he wrote this....but he's still right.

Every bank in the US is bankrupt and will not be profitable for years...just propped up...

I had a Discover card,but found it hard to use,because many establishments don't accept it...same with Amex,but to a lesser degree..

In this economic mess,I don't see much chance for growth for DFS.

Mish,total agreement...But I've been saying this for 6 months to anyone who would listen.I have puts I bought last week on several banks that popped on crappy earnings and I thought today would be cash-in day,but nooo!

I think the market maker would get the profit from the short losses,but I suppose the broker could if he was somehow on the other side of the trade or matching positions..

Earnings Season: Fundamentally Flawed

Also,the banks are so far away from their traditional business model for the last 15yrs,backdate comparisons are of no value.I feel for the retirees with their trust rated stocks going into the tank and no chance to recover before they take a dirt nap.I am 57 yrs old and it looks like I'll be working to 70,if there is any work to do..

Well said Mr.Steinhardt..I've been yelling at the tv when these stooges in financial media repeat the better than expected routine.

If you read financial blogs all over the web,as I do,you will find mostly agreement with your position....my question is,who the hell is buying these broken financial stocks?I have bought a couple for a trade here and there...but not for an investment!Thats probably 3 yrs down the road..

Continental Resources (CLR) -- "This is a remarkable decline. All of the high quality ones are down so much, I can't go against it. This is where you pull the trigger.
3M (MMM) -- The moment this stock starts yielding 5%, I'm a buyer. Until then, keep your powder dry.

Bearish Calls:

Computer Sciences (CSC) -- This is a company that was going to be bought, but they passed up the chance. Now I don't want to buy it."
Annaly Mortgage (NLY) -- I think this is a business model that needs to borrow money. Definitively do not buy."
Northrop Grumman (NOC) -- You can't own the defense stocks right now. If I had to own one, I'd look at Lockheed Martin (LMT) with its good dividend.
