  • Lehman Bankruptcy: Crisis Management Via Crisis Export?
I guess that the fact that these big banks are hoarding the money now pretty well proves they didn't need the bailout to start with! The small businesses, retailers, etc. that went and are going out of business are the ones that needed help, and the government wouldn't even consider bailing them out. And I never heard of any $400,000 vacations for retailers this year!!

  • Madoff Investors Deserve Sympathy, Not a Bailout
As a Lehman investor...er, former Lehman investor, I guess, I find it hard to go along with yet another bailout using my great-grandchildren's money. Part of investing, other than FDIC accounts, is knowing your money is at risk. If our government doesn't recognize that, why not just make every investment, no matter how stupid, FDIC insured?

  • What Happened to the American Dream?
Another problem could be put squarely on the shoulders of the "little guy" and that is the little guy trying to keep up with his neighbors by borrowing money that he hasn't the means to pay back. We all think we are entitled to a new car and house as soon as we graduate from high school. Earlier generations wouldn't dream of those purchases until they had quite a bit of money in the bank and a decent job. The best thing to happen to us would be for banks to refuse loans to people who can't show means of repayment.

  • Will People Continue to Buy GM Cars?
I don't think people are going to rush down to GM lots, or any other for that matter, until they/we actually need a car. Given the economy that we are faced with, unemployment, etc. it would be foolish for us to buy as we did in the earlier years. GM, Toyota, and others probably should just scale back their production instead of whining that they can't sell all of the 100 million gas guzzler cars they built last year. Toyota had their chance with me last year, but were unwilling to accept a reasonable offer from me (wouldn't go any less than sticker price) and offered me a pitiful amount for my good condition 2000 GM auto. They'll not get that chance again!!

  • Amex, eBay, IBM Most Trusted for Privacy in 2008
I have been a small seller and buyer on ebay and personally have had no trouble at all with ebay or paypal, but the more I read about ebay in articles like this the more reluctant I am to deal with them.
The only problem I have with them currently is with them continually raising the fees. On most of my sales lately the only one making any money is ebay and the shipper. I know this is supposed to be about trust and privacy but I couldn't help but throw that in.

  • What Will Become of eBay?
We seem to have missed another point why sellers leave ebay, and that is the increasing fees that ebay imposes. Along with the postage increases due to the fuel increase (which didn't go down when fuel prices went down) it just isn't profitable to sell anything on ebay unless you had the merchandise given to you or you stole it!!

  • Has Cutting Interest Rates Saved Anyone?
I'm in favor of raising interest rates..a lot. At least people then could put their retirement money in the bank and get something to live on. The way it is now you are practically forced to invest in something else and if you're like me you'll make less money than normal bank interest...unless you invest in Lehman or Madoff, then you won't have anything!!

  • Time for America to Fire First Shot in the EV Revolution
It appears America is hardly going to fire even the second or third shot, let alone first. Smith electric vehicles has trucks of all sizes for sale and in use NOW. I also read about the Chinese, with help from our own Warren Buffett about to mass produce a real nice looking car for sale in USA sooner than we can produce one. I think it might be a plug in hybrid but still better than our efforts. You might check their website on Smith. It is smithelectricvehicles....
